We’ve all heard the older generation talk about sacrifice as something hard and painful. But what if sacrifice could be seen differently? What if it meant sacrificing our bad habits?

Growing up, we’ve all heard at least one older figure talk about how much they sacrificed to be somewhere, to take a certain risk, or to achieve a certain goal.

We live in a different era, and yes, the generations before us went through immense sacrifices to create the easier pace we enjoy today.

Yet, many of us perceive sacrifice as something purely negative — something to endure painfully.

I’ve mentioned before that we live in a world of duality. There’s a flip side to everything. The same goes for words. The same goes for sacrifice.

When I began to reflect on the idea of sacrifice, I realized it could also mean letting go of the habits that hold me back.

Sacrifice can be something good, even essential, for growth.

Think about it.

In order to achieve certain goals, you must sacrifice parts of your old self to make space for something new.

You sacrifice laziness to build discipline.
You sacrifice complaints to build gratitude.
You sacrifice procrastination to build productivity.
You sacrifice self-pity to build resilience.

! BACK TO OUR TOPIC !

Sacrifice feels painful because we are creatures of habit.

We find safety in our comfort zone, even when that comfort keeps us small. Change disrupts what feels familiar, even when the familiar no longer serves us.

But discomfort is not the same as danger. And pain is not the same as harm.

When you decide to sacrifice certain aspects of yourself in order to grow, you are not losing — you are investing. You are choosing long-term fulfillment over short-term comfort. You are choosing expansion over stagnation.

Maybe sacrifice isn’t about giving something up.
Maybe it’s about giving yourself a chance.

Ask yourself:
What habit am I willing to sacrifice for the life I say I want?

Growth will always ask for something in return. The question is — are you willing to pay the price for it?

With love,

Chanel.
